Directory Information

Student Directory Information 

Stanford regards the following items of information as student “directory information,” that is, information that the university may make available to any person upon specific request (and without student consent):

  • Name
  • Enrollment status
  • ID card photographs
  • Institution attended immediately prior to Stanford 
  • Major(s), minor(s), and field(s) of study
  • Specific terms of attendance at Stanford 
  • Stanford degree(s) awarded and date(s)
  • Stanford email address 
  • Student theses and dissertations
  • University degree honors

Stanford is moving toward a system whereby the only information shared about students would be directory information. While systems are changing and being updated, or if you wish to prohibit the release of any of the information listed above (apart from “name”, which cannot be changed), please designate which information should not be released in the Privacy Settings on Axess.

Faculty and Staff Information 

Faculty and staff members can change their directory information settings by going to StanfordYou. Instructions on how to alter some privacy settings are available in the Instructions for Using StanfordYou.
