While many of the policies on this website are not new, a few changes have been made to guidance in light of recommendations by various committees or decisions of the university administration. This page will highlight any changes to existing rules. 

September 2024

  • A Major Events Protocol has been implemented to furnish guidance on when the Office of Student Engagement or the Office of Special Events & Protocol need to be involved in event planning
  • New outdoor event spaces have been designated around campus and will be available for reservation
  • More specific guidance has been provided about what kinds of spontaneous gatherings can occur around campus and what kinds of events require more planning in conjunction with the university or specific venues
  • Chalking is now permitted throughout campus on appropriate surfaces
  • Classroom recording rules have been tightened to increase students’ comfort with speaking freely in that context
  • The Chatham House rule may be implemented by instructors to facilitate open exchange in classes 
  • Student information default policies are changing to keep more information confidential
  • The identification requirements from the 1968 Campus Disruptions Policy are clarified, including the obligation to remove facial coverings for purposes of identification under circumstances covered by the Campus Disruptions Policy
  • The definition of camping, which remains prohibited except for historically approved exceptions, is clarified as including leaving tents and similar structures overnight, whether inhabited or not
  • Viewpoint neutrality has been emphasized throughout policies
  • A new Title VI process will be replacing the Protected Identity Harm Reporting system
